Jay’s Blog #3 Nov. 2014
Well, my world is proof positive that time does fly when you are having fun. I have fun, Linda has fun and we have fun together. All of a sudden I realized that we opened our store on our own web site a year ago this month. Gallery at Kingston was created in November 2013. It’s hard to believe we have had our web site for a full year.
Several months ago we placed our wood wall art animal creations in a gallery in Denison Texas. The store is called KABOODLES and it’s a collection of miscellaneous items. KABOODLES is located in old town Denison at 513 W Main St. If you are anywhere in North Texas, or Southern Oklahoma it would be well worth your time to visit KABOODLES and check out everything they have.
I think the main reason our hobby is so fun is that we are doing it together. We both come from business back grounds, meaning we both had our own businesses. Facing retirement we were a little apprehensive about being/working together 24 hours a day, I can honestly say we haven’t had any problems being together at all. (As long as Linda does what I tell her to do)
We do have separate shops/working areas, but that’s necessary because of all of the sawdust and noise I create when I work. Linda does the painting and so she does the painting in a room in the house we have sat aside for that work. When she sews, she has a building outside for that.
To date about 75% of the items we have sold have been custom work. By custom work, I mean a client sends us their picture and we create their treasure, and it’s completely original and completely handmade, but then everything we make is handmade. We also find things on the Internet that we think clients might like.
We make our own patterns. I use those patterns and transfer it onto the wood. (Please see my Blog #2 for a complete description of the process) When it’s ready for the paint, and final finishes, I turn it over to Linda and she finishes our creations.
If any one has a specific question, or questions about our creations, or the process you are welcome to send your question, via email at email@example.com and we would be happy to answer your questions.
